Boston College Eagles 89 (OT) Providence hit two 3-pointers in the final 1:05 of regulation to force overtime in a 98-89 victory over Boston College in the second game of The Hartford Hall of Fame Showcase. Weyinmi Efejuku had 21 points en route to MVP honors and Jeff Xavier added 20 points for the Friars. Down 62-38 with 15 minutes left in regulation, Boston College went on a 38-12 run over the next 13 minutes to take a 76-70 lead with 1:12 to go. The Friars rallied as Xavier and Efejuku hit 3s, the second tying the game with 22 seconds to go. The overtime was all Providence as the Friars opened it with a 13-2 run. Xavier and Efejuku both had 3s in the run and this time the deficit was too much for the Eagles. “It was a tale of three games, not two,” said Providence coach Tim Welsh. “We got a little lax with our defense, we got relaxed with a big lead and they got into the seams of our zone. They started attacking the paint and that led to easy baskets and second shots.” Rice had 25 points for Boston College, while freshman Corey Raji tripled his previous career high with 24 points. This was the 102nd meeting of the New England schools and Providence holds a 57-45 lead. The schools were both in the Big East until Boston College left for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005. ![]() |
